European Cloud Providers

There is a growing landscape of European cloud providers. All of them are offering basic IaaS services, such as VMs and managed databases. Differences are in the PaaS offering, in AI and in serverless services.

OVHcloud

OVHcloud is a mature cloud provider with 43 data centers across 9 countries, including Canada and Singapore.

OVHcloud are offering public cloud services, including higher-level services, e.g. for data platform, web hosting packages and Hosted Private Cloud and a global CDN.

Cyso Cloud

Cyso Cloud is an OpenStack-based cloud provider based in the Netherlands.

The Cyso Cloud service portfolio includes core Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings such as compute, storage, a managed Kubernetes service EMK and a transactional email service.

With its data centres in North Holland and in Frankfurt, Cyso Cloud can fulfill geo-redundancy requirements. The NEN 7510 certification for the Dutch healthcare sector can make Cyso Cloud a good choice for respective Dutch companies.

Open Telekom Cloud

Open Telekom Cloud is operated by Deutsche Telekom AG.

Open Telekom Cloud offers a range of IaaS cloud services. Furthermore, they are offering higher-level services including managed Kubernetes, big data services, managed AI and serverless functions.

Deutsche Telekom AG is also operating a GCP instance.

Scaleway

Scaleway is cloud provider with a good set of higher-level services, such as managed AI and serverless services services, e.g. a serverless container service and a serverless database.

With a history going back to 1999, Scaleway has a proven track record and has one of the most advanced cloud service portfolios in the European landscape.

UpCloud

UpCloud is a European cloud provider headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. UpCloud are operating 13 data centres across 4 continents.

The service portfolio of UpCloud is not the broadest, focusing on the basic cloud primitives such as managed Kubernetes, storage and managed databases, but developer tooling around UpCloud is rich and covers all the typical developer use cases.

Exoscale

Exoscale offer a full range of IaaS services. Especially noteworthy are the DBaaS services for managed Apache Kafka, managed OpenSearch and managed Grafana.

Exoscale are operating 7 data centers across Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Croatia and Bulgaria.

Exoscale is owned by A1, the Austrian telecommunication company.

Nine

Nine is an application platform by Nine Internet Solutions in Switzerland. While Nine Internet Solutions offers classic colocation and managed hosting solutions, the distinctive product is the Deploio application engine.

Nine is currently brought to the world from two data centers in the Zürich region in Switzerland.
